Student Success Stories
Libby Smith and Danielle McVicker
Libby Smith moved back to Mountain Home, Arkansas, as a single mother of two to be near her own mother and father. She enrolled in ASUMH in the fall of 1996 after realizing she couldn’t support two children on minimum wage. Two years later, she graduated with an associate’s degree in criminal justice as Valedictorian of her class. She continued her education, earning an A.A. degree, a B.A. degree and a master’s degree. Today, she is an instructor at ASUMH.
Libby’s daughter, Danielle McVicker, is following in her mother’s footsteps. While she was offered a full academic scholarship at a large university elsewhere, she decided to stay close to home and attend ASUMH where she also received a full scholarship. In May, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice just like her mom. Most recently, Danielle scored in the top 91% in the nation on the Law School Aptitude Test and was awarded the largest scholarship the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville offers. Keep your eye on this family. Libby’s son, Jake McVicker, has begun taking classes at ASUMH too.
