Application

The application may be completed online and printed or you may print the application and fill it in.  Sign and submit the completed application and required documentation for eligibility to the address provided on the application.  Eligibility Criteria is on the application.

Guidelines

Recipients of the Academic Distinction Scholarship are responsible for knowing and adhering to all scholarship guidelines.  For students determined to be eligible, the guidelines for receipt and renewal of the Academic Distinction Scholarship are provided on this page and in an easily downloadable and printable format.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR RECEIPT OF THE ACADEMIC DISTINCTION SCHOLARSHIP

ACCEPT the initial Academic Distinction Scholarship Award Offer.

  1. The offer MUST be accepted within 30 days of date on the notification letter offering the scholarship.

  2. Academic Distinction Scholarship offers not accepted within 30 days of date on the notification letter offering the Academic Distinction Scholarship are subject to possible forfeiture.

  3. Recipients that attend another college or other post-secondary institution after high school graduation or home school completion and before attending ASUMH forfeit their scholarship offer.

  4. Recipients that plan to attend another college or other post-secondary institution should decline the award in writing to the ASUMH Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

ENROLL in the correct number and type of credit hours every FALL and SPRING semester

  1. Students not enrolled in the correct number and type of credit hours during fall and spring semesters forfeit eligibility. No Academic Distinction Scholarship funds will be given for enrollment in less than the proper number and type of hours.

  2. Recipients of the Academic Distinction Scholarship must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 college level credit hours offered by ASUMH, excluding College Preparatory (CPT) and Developmental Courses, during each fall and spring semester to be eligible to receive scholarship funds.

  3. College Preparatory (CPT)/Developmental Courses NOT covered or acceptable. Listed below are the current ASUMH course offerings that ARE NOT acceptable for the 12 college level credit hour requirement. Academic Distinction Scholarship recipients enrolled in any of the courses below or other College Preparatory (CPT)/Developmental Course offering during fall or spring must be enrolled in 12 additional ASUMH Credit Hour courses to be eligible to receive the scholarship. Tuition is not covered for College Preparatory (CPT)/Developmental Courses.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR RENEWAL OF THE ACADEMIC DISTINCTION SCHOLARSHIP

  1. Complete and Pass a Minimum of 12 college credit hours offered by ASUMH every fall and spring semester, excluding College Preparatory (CPT) and Developmental Courses.

  1. Maintain the Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00 at the end of every fall and spring semester. NOTE: Academic Distinction Scholarship recipients who enroll for their first time at ASUMH in summer school classes will be eligible to receive the Academic Distinction Scholarship for one semester regardless of their Cumulative Grade Point Average after that summer enrollment period.

PROBATION

Only one (1) probation semester is allowed for any ACADEMIC DISTINCTION SCHOLARSHIP recipient. Any recipient not maintaining the minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00 will be granted one semester of probation after the CGPA drops below a 3.00. The recipient loses funding of this scholarship during the probation semester and loses one (1) of the traditional four (4) semesters of eligibility. To be eligible for reinstatement after the probation semester, the recipient must:

  • Enroll in, complete and pass a minimum of 12 college offered by ASUMH, excluding College Preparatory (CPT) and Developmental Courses during the probation semester

  • Have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00 at the end of the probation semester.

  • Have at least one (1) semester of eligibility remaining.

GENERAL ACADEMIC DISTINCTION SCHOLARSHIP RULES

  • All Academic Distinction Scholarship recipients are responsible for understanding the rules and meeting all responsibilities of scholarship receipt and renewal. Recipient may lose the scholarship if all rules and requirements for receipt and renewal are not met.

  • The Academic Distinction Scholarship can pay tuition only for up to four consecutive semesters of full-time enrollment at ASUMH excluding summer enrollment. All fees are the responsibility of the student.

  • The Academic Distinction Scholarship is available for attendance in Arkansas State University – Mountain Home courses only.

  • The Academic Distinction Scholarship can be renewed up to 3 times, for a total of 4 consecutive semesters, excluding summer enrollment.

  • Eligibility for renewal is checked after fall and spring grades are posted.

  • Recipients that do not attend ASUMH consecutive fall and spring semesters lose the scholarship.

  • The Academic Distinction Scholarship is awarded from a limited amount of funding. To avoid the possibility of funding not being available apply as early as possible.

  • ASUMH summer school enrollment does not count toward or assist with any hour requirements for receipt or renewal of the Academic Distinction Scholarship.

  • ASUMH summer school grades are included in the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) calculation and will be part of the eligibility determinations beginning with renewal evaluation at the end of the subsequent fall semester.

  • Recipients of the Academic Distinction Scholarship that receive other assistance specifically designated to pay tuition will only receive funding if the other assistance does not cover the full amount of tuition that the Academic Distinction Scholarship would normally pay. A semester’s Academic Distinction Scholarship eligibility is expended for any semester that this occurs and the receipt and renewal criteria still apply toward remaining eligible for furture semesters of eligibility. Examples of this type of assistance include, but are not limited to, tuition payments based on ASU system discounts, Arkansas Rehabilitation, Career Pathways, and Veteran’s Benefits.

  • Academic Distinction Scholarship recipients who receive a course grade of incomplete (“I”) will meet the renewal requirements if they did complete 12 additional ASUMH Credit Hour courses during the semester, excluding College Preparatory (CPT) and Developmental Courses, and maintain the minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00.

  • Academic Distinction Scholarship recipients who have a course grade of incomplete (“I”) but either did not complete 12 additional ASUMH Credit Hour courses during the semester, excluding College Preparatory (CPT) and Developmental Courses, or did not maintain the minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00 are considered to have lost the Academic Distinction Scholarship. When the course grade of incomplete (“I”) is changed it is the responsibility of the recipient of the Academic Distinction Scholarship to contact the ASUMH Scholarship Committee for reinstatement consideration.

  • Academic Distinction Scholarship recipients who lose their scholarship because they did not maintain the minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00 and subsequently have a changed grade are responsible for contacting the ASUMH Scholarship Committee for reinstatement consideration.

  • Any semester that ends before reinstatement consideration due to a subsequent grade change will not be paid for and that semester is subtracted for the student’s semesters of eligibility remaining. All other requirements for receipt and renewal must be maintained for reinstatement consideration.

  • Retaking a course for a better grade and academic clemency are NOT acceptable reinstatement considerations.

Placing the ACADEMIC DISTINCTION SCHOLARSHIP offer on hold for the first semester

An Academic Distinction Scholarship recipient may only delay enrollment for their first semester of attendance at ASUMH, provided the following requirements are met.

  • The recipient’s first enrollment period of actual attendance at ASUMH is less than one (1) calendar year after high school graduation, home school completion, or the GED testing date.

  • The recipient submits their intent in writing to the ASUMH Scholarship Committee prior to the beginning of the fall or spring semester they will not be attending.

  • The recipient does not enroll in any other post-secondary institution prior to beginning enrollment at ASUMH.
