For people who love working with customers and enjoy the travel, tourism, and leisure activity market, the hospitality industry may be just the right fit. ASUMH offers students classes, activities, and work experiences designed to foster their personal, academic, and professional growth.

The hospitality industry is one of the most fascinating, fun, and stimulating to work in where it does not take long before advancement opportunities come along. A degree plus experience enables almost anyone with the service spirit to enjoy success. Businesses in the hospitality industry are almost all labor intensive. While modern technology and automation have certainly changed many aspects of how establishments serve and entertain people, it still takes a lot of hands to make things run smoothly in the hospitality industry.

The personal characteristics, qualities, skills, and abilities you’ll need are honesty, hard work, being a team player, being prepared to work long hours spread over various shifts, the ability to cope with stress, good decision-making skills, good communication skills, being dedicated to exceptional service, and having a passion and desire to exceed guest expectation.

The technical certificate in Hospitality Management prepares students for entry-level positions in hospitality management. The program provides specialized knowledge in various management techniques and skills as they are practiced in the hospitality industry.

Road restoration is underway on the ASUMH campus. Please allow extra time when coming to campus as you may need to enter the campus by another route or park in a different location.

Current Road/Parking Lot Closures (starting 9/24/2020): College Street Entrance and Wade Street Entrance, Parking lots behind Integrity First Hall and Dryer Hall. This part of the road restoration should be completed on Wednesday, September 30th, by the end of the day.

Phase 2: After College Street & Wade Street entrances have reopened, we will move on to blocking the Highway 62 entrance and King Circle toward Roller Hall and Roller Drive. Barricades will be in place.

Phase 3: After the Highway 62 entrance opens, we will be moving to the Maintenance Entrance, Maintenance & Vada Sheid Community Development Center parking lots.We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause as we continue to make needed upgrades to campus.

An important part of the Leadership Intern program is service to others. Reaching back after you have been through the program and helping a new member of the program is encouraged. Consider the list of ideas below and mark at least two things you would be willing to do.

  1. I will enroll in at least 6 credit hours per semester.
  2. I will maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  3. I will attend orientation, retreat, by-monthly meetings with my mentor(s), and any other required activities on the attached required activities list.

  5. I will provide feedback to the mentors.

Admissions decisions made based on mid-term grades will be contingent upon final grades.
Important Disclosures about the Program and the Funeral Service Industry
I understand this program is full-time and requires that I follow a specific course rotation of 14-16 credit hours per semester.
I understand that all Funeral Science Education curriculum course work must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.
I understand that students must maintain a 2.5 GPA and will only be allowed to retake courses from which they withdraw or failed in the first semester upon admission to the program.
I understand that students are responsible for any costs associated with the program including field trips and Training Camp.
I understand that when I receive my results for each section of the National Board Examination, I must forward a copy of such results to the program coordinator as a condition of graduation.
I understand that it is my responsibility to know the licensing requirements for any state in which I intend to practice.
I understand that students who have previously been convicted of a crime may be restricted from certain clinical facilities and may be ineligible for some state licenses.
I understand that students who have a physical disability should contact the state in which he/she plans to seek licensure to determine if the disability will affect licensure.
I understand that a current driver’s license is required prior to enrolling in a clinical or practicum course.
I have read and understand the program dismissal policies contained within the Funeral Science Student Handbook.
