Job Title: Funeral Science Director

Arkansas State University – Mountain Home seeks applicants for 12-month Director of Funeral Science with an anticipated opening beginning July, 1, 2022. The Director of Funeral Science serves as both program director and instructor. The program director is responsible for the continued development, implementation, promotion and daily operation of both the traditional and distance education components of the program.

These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Serving as a liaison among the faculty and students of the program and the University administration
  • Assessing and maintaining the physical facilities of the program
  • Developing and managing the budget
  • Supervising full-time and adjunct faculty
  • Ensuring that the programs and courses align with accreditation requirements
  • Initiating and overseeing curricular changes as needed
  • Completing necessary reports and documents required for accreditation
  • Cultivating relationships with and utilizing input from advisory boards
  • Working with faculty to maintain program accreditation
  • Gathering data and proposing program review and improvement information
  • Organizing and participating in academic advising as needed

Minimum requirements include equivalent of a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with the ability to complete a Master's degree within five years of the hire date and a current funeral director/embalmer license. Five years' experience as a licensed funeral director/embalmer and three years traditional and/or online teaching at the community college level is preferred. Salary is dependent on education and experience, and includes a comprehensive benefits and leave package.

I understand the program has a specific course rotation that I am required to follow each semester.
I understand that all Funeral Science Education curriculum course work must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.
I understand that I must maintain a 2.5 GPA and will only be allowed to retake courses from which I withdrew or failed in the first semester upon admission to the program.
I understand that I am responsible for any costs associated with the program including field trips and Training Camp.
I understand that it is my responsibility to know the licensing requirements for any state in which I intend to practice.
I understand that students who have previously been convicted of a crime may be restricted from certain clinical facilities and may be ineligible for some state licenses.
I understand that students who have a physical disability should contact the state in which he/she plans to seek licensure to determine if the disability will affect licensure.
I understand that a current driver’s license is required prior to enrolling in a clinical or practicum course.
