Program Overview
Technical Certificate (TC)
The Technical Certificate in Machining prepares students for employment in a diverse array of high-paying career fields. Machinists are skilled craftsmen and women who make every industry possible through their knowledge of metallurgy, blueprint reading, metal removal processes, precision measuring and inspection, fabrication, mathematics, tolerances, machine setup and maintenance, programming, and more. With the proper equipment and training, a skilled machinist can make virtually any mechanical device or tool. The Technical Certificate builds upon the Certificate of Proficiency by adding computer numerical control (CNC) setup, programming, and operations.
Certificate of Proficiency (CP)
Machinists are precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. They may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. The Certificate of Proficiency focuses on manual machining and serves as the foundation for the Technical Certificate. Both programs are also available through the ASUMH Secondary Center, allowing eligible high school students to begin coursework before graduation.
