Program Overview

Certificate of Proficiency (CP) – Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

The Certified Nursing Assistant program prepares students with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to provide basic patient care. Students learn personal care, patient safety, communication, and clinical skills needed for employment in a variety of healthcare settings. The program also serves as a foundation for students planning to continue into Practical Nursing or Registered Nursing.

Technical Certificate (TC) – Pre-Nursing

The Pre-Nursing Technical Certificate is designed for students to complete the prerequisite coursework required to apply for entry into ASUMH's nursing programs.

Technical Certificate (TC) – Practical Nursing

The Practical Nursing program prepares students to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). Graduates are eligible to enter the workforce after completing the program and obtaining licensure or may continue their education through the PN/Paramedic to RN Bridge program. The program meets the requirements of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) – PN/Paramedic to RN Bridge

Designed for Licensed Practical Nurses and Paramedics, the Bridge program provides a pathway to become a Registered Nurse. Classes are offered one evening per week with one clinical day each week, allowing working healthcare professionals to continue their education while employed. Graduates are eligible to apply for the NCLEX-RN.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) – Registered Nursing (Traditional)

The Traditional Registered Nursing program prepares students to become Registered Nurses through classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical experiences. Graduates are eligible to apply for the NCLEX-RN and begin careers in a variety of healthcare settings. The program meets the requirements of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.

Transfer Options

ASUMH's Nursing program offers multiple pathways for students to advance their education and careers.

Students may begin with the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certificate of Proficiency or complete the Pre-Nursing Technical Certificate to prepare for admission into a nursing program.

After becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) through the Practical Nursing program, students may continue their education through the PN/Paramedic to RN Bridge, providing a pathway to earn the Associate of Applied Science in Registered Nursing and become eligible to take the NCLEX-RN.

Students who complete the Associate of Applied Science in Registered Nursing may continue their education by transferring to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. ASUMH maintains partnerships with four-year institutions to support students pursuing advanced nursing degrees.
