Step Up, Reach Back

Our Mission
Step Up, Reach Back is a mentorship-based program at ASUMH designed to help students discover who they are, connect with others, and grow into confident, capable individuals they are meant to be. This experience is about more than personal achievement – it is about sharing what you have learned to help someone else on their journey too.
Each year, a select group of students is chosen to be part of this powerful community, characterized by encouragement, honesty, and growth. Through one-on-one mentoring, group conversations, and “Reach Back” activities, participants gain the tools to better understand themselves, speak up for what they want, and support others doing the same.
This is not about having it all figured out — it is about having the courage to keep going, the strength to lift others up, and the heart to grow in community.
Whether you are struggling to find your voice or simply looking for a space to grow, Step Up, Reach Back offers a supportive circle of mentors and peers who will walk beside you every step of the way.
"The program helped me understand my values, ask for what I want, and open up to the people around me. I’m more confident, more connected, and more myself than I’ve ever been." — Katelyn Fox
"Even when I felt like I was falling apart, Step Up, Reach Back gave me purpose. Now I know I want to live a life that makes an impact—and I believe I can." — Cassie Jones
“Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it” is a message that stuck with me. While many people may be told this regularly, I thought it was extra special that a group is designed around that saying. Especially a group of women who are strong and like-minded. The support is endless and always nearby. –- Shye Fischer
“100% would recommend! I am so thankful for this program! I have met so many great mentors and peers that I know I can count on. It is so reassuring to know that there is a great group of women who support me and want me to be successful. It is also beneficial to know lots of women who have connections to the outside world. If I ever need help in certain areas, I know which mentors to contact! I can’t wait for this next year in the women’s group!” –- Sadie Quick
