How We Can Help

ONBOARDING
Upon admission to ASUMH, The Onboarding Specialist will contact you to welcome you to the ASUMH community and help make an appointment with your advisor. Prior to your meeting, the OS will review your file for any incomplete paperwork or missing informationto ensure a smooth start.

ACADEMIC ADVISING
All ASUMH students start with one of our Student Success Coaches as their advisor. Advising sessions are more than registering for classes; SSCs help define programs, explain transfer credits and prerequisites, explore program options and connect students with helpful resources. Students are later paired with a faculty advisor within their program of study, but the SSC remains a resource as long as students are enrolled.

EARLY ALERTS
ASUMH takes a holistic approach to student support. Faculty are actively involved in our support services through an early alert system which notifies the SSC of concerns ranging from academic challenges—like missing classes or low test scores—to personal issues such as food insecurity or housing instability. In response, the SSC initiates proactive outreach and offers appropriate resources and referrals. Faculty and staff can Submit an Early Alert at any time, but are urged to do so as soon as possible. Our goal is to offer support before it becomes too late to pass a course.

Students can self-report problems as well. If you are experiencing trouble in your academic or personal life, complete this survey and one of our staff members will reach out and connect you to the appropriate resources.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
It takes more than showing up to class to be a successful student. The SSC provides services beyond the classroom that help students build the skills necessary to perform well academically while managing regular life. Our Success Coaches are certified to help students develop a growth mindset through strengthening study habits, managing time effectively, and mitigating test anxiety. The SSC also supports career readiness through resume writing, interview preparation, and free certifications in Microsoft Office Suite. The center also offers an additional access point for ASUMH's Food Pantry, providing "food bags" to students in need.

CANVAS RESOURCE SHELL
All students have access to the Student Success Center course in Canvas. Rather than a traditional course that asks students to move through content and complete assignments for a grade, this course houses resources related to our offered services. Students can access these resources and work through them at their own pace.

BASIC TECHNOLOGY TUTORIALS
Walkthroughs of Canvas, Banner logins, and basic troubleshooting for campus software and programs. This is not a substitute for Information Technology, we can help students navigate but cannot help correct password or access problems.

The Student Success Center is dedicated to helping students reach their academic and professional goals. Beyond registering for classes, our Student Success Coaches offer personalized, conversational meetings tailored to each student’s individual needs. We take a holistic approach that considers a student’s personal goals, financial needs and programmatic standards to help them complete programs.
