About This Program
In this program, students simulate real-world cybersecurity threat scenarios and create opportunities for ethical hacking, security monitoring, analysis, and resolution. Students configure and use threat detection tools, perform data analysis and interpret the results to identify vulnerabilities, threats and risks to an organization. The program emphasizes the practical application of the skills needed to maintain and ensure secure operational readiness of systems within an organization.
Using critical thinking, complex problem solving and collaboration, students learn the how tos of implementing data confidentiality, integrity, availability, and security controls on networks, servers and applications. Security principles and policies that comply with cybersecurity law are also introduced.
Cybersecurity risks and threats are ever-present. The Internet and network infrastructures are increasingly vulnerable to a wide variety of physical and cyberattacks. Sophisticated cyber criminals and nations exploit these vulnerabilities stealing information, money, and more. These threats and vulnerabilities are fueling the growing need for skilled cybersecurity professionals.
There are many opportunities for career growth in this field. As people become increasingly dependent on networks to store their personal, financial, and business data, there’s a greater incentive for cyber criminals to steal, manipulate, and monetize that data. The world needs specialists to proactively defend and address these threats.
ASUMH’s Associate of Applied Science in Cybersecurity degree provides foundational knowledge in all aspects of security in the cyber world, including information security, systems security, network security, mobile security, physical security, ethics and law. It builds students’ skills in related technologies, procedures, defense and mitigation techniques used in protecting businesses. Students also learn to secure information systems through the monitoring, detecting, investigating, analyzing, and responding to security events, thus protecting systems from cybersecurity risks, threats, and vulnerabilities.
The Associate of Applied Science in Cybersecurity degree helps prepare students for entry-level cybersecurity career opportunities and is aligned to the Understanding Cisco Cybersecurity Fundamentals industry certification exam (210 – 250 SECFND) and Implementing Cisco Cybersecurity Operations industry certification exam (210 – 255 SECOPS) leading to the Cisco CCNA Cybersecurity Operations industry certification. The Cisco CCNA Cybersecurity Operations certification has been approved as an Information Assurance baseline certification by the Department of Defense.
With technological advances, the demand for a skilled cybersecurity workforce continues to increase. Attaining an industry certification is a valuable credential to help start or enhance a career in the exciting field of cybersecurity. By combining the Cybersecurity degree with an industry-recognized certification, students can increase their employment potential.
Training a cybersecurity workforce is a national priority for most countries, with a demand for cybersecurity professionals projected to rise to six million job openings globally. Students can get prepared for this in-demand job market and gain career-ready cybersecurity knowledge and skills by enrolling in ASUMH’s Associate of Applied Science in Cybersecurity degree.
