Academic Advising

Academic advising will be a very important resource in your academic journey. At ASU-Mountain Home, we have a three-tiered academic advising model that is set up to connect students to advisors who will help you navigate your college experience.

How do I know who my advisor is?

At ASU-Mountain Home, students are assigned to advisors based on their program of study. Once you have submitted your placement scores or college transcript, you will receive an email directing you to contact our Title III Director, Dr. Jacob Hutchinson by email at jhutchinson@asumh.edu or by phone at 870-508-6193, so that he can connect you with an advisor. When reaching out to him, please include your student ID number that is included in that email. Advisors can meet with you over the phone, by email, through zoom, or in person, so just let us know what works best for you!

What do advisors do?

Think of your academic advisor like your personal counselor who will help you select classes, answer questions about your degree, and make sure you are on track to graduate. While advisors hold a wealth of information, your advising session will be it is best if you come prepared.

What should I do to prepare for an advising session?

Check out the Pre-Advising Checklist so that you can know before you go. This checklist covers everything from admissions to financial aid to degree checklists, so make sure you're doing your part to get ready for your advising session.

When do I need to meet with my advisor?

Your advisor will be able to help you throughout the year with questions you may have, but the most important time to make an appointment with them will be right before registration begins. Fall registration opens April 1 and Spring registration opens November 1 every year. In order to enroll in the class you want and need, make an appointment with your advisor as soon as possible.

How do I change my schedule?

Your schedule can be changed at any point during the registration period. If you want to add or drop a course, please reach out to your advisor. Keep in mind that the closer to the start of the semester, the harder it might be to get into a class you want. Once classes fill, there is no guarantee that another section will open.

What if I forget who my advisor is?

We get it, sometimes it's hard to keep track of everything -- no worries! If you forget who your assigned advisor is, you can find their name in your Banner Student Self Service. Contact information for ASUMH advisors can be found on the Faculty & Staff Directory page of our website or you're more than welcome to call Admissions at 870-508-6104 and our team can connect you.
