Program Overview
Technical Certificate (TC) – Funeral Directing
The Technical Certificate in Funeral Directing prepares students to serve families through funeral planning, counseling, and service coordination without the embalming portion of the curriculum. Graduates may pursue employment as funeral directors, though the certificate is not ABFSE accredited and does not qualify graduates to sit for the National Board Examination or certain state licensing exams. Coursework also satisfies the funeral service prerequisites for the Associate of Applied Science in Funeral Science.
Associate of Applied Science (AAS) – Funeral Science
The Associate of Applied Science in Funeral Science prepares students for careers as licensed funeral directors and embalmers. Students receive comprehensive instruction in funeral service, embalming, restorative art, business management, ethics, and grief support while gaining the technical and professional skills needed to serve families and communities. The program is accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) and prepares graduates for entry into the profession. Courses are delivered through compressed video to ASU-Mountain Home, ASU-Jonesboro, and ASU-Beebe, allowing students to complete the program from multiple campus locations.
