Marine Manufacturing

AAS, CP, & TC

Program Overview

Associate of Applied Science (AAS)

North Central Arkansas has a rich heritage in the manufacture of fiberglass boats dating back to the 1960s. There are an estimated 2,000 boat manufacturing jobs within a 120-mile radius of Mountain Home, Arkansas, with demand for skilled employees significantly higher than the national average. ASUMH's Marine Manufacturing program was created to meet this workforce need by preparing students with the technical skills used in boat and composite manufacturing. Students learn basic tools, electrical systems, gel coat application, mold masking, and open and closed molding lamination. These skills also apply to automotive, aviation, and other composite manufacturing industries. The program also highlights welding opportunities through ASUMH's Welding Technology program.

Technical Certificate (TC)

The Technical Certificate is designed for students interested in careers in boat manufacturing or other fiberglass composite industries. The program integrates basic tools, gel coat application, and open molded lamination into the manufacture of boats and can be completed in three semesters. All coursework applies toward the Associate of Applied Science should students decide to continue their education.

Certificate of Proficiency (CP)

The Certificate of Proficiency introduces students to the marine manufacturing industry through instruction in workplace safety, basic hand tools, and composite (fiberglass) materials and their applications. It provides an opportunity to gain foundational skills without committing to a two-year degree.
