Arkansas State University – Mountain Home Announces Gift to Support Holiday Lights
MOUNTAIN HOME, AR, September 24, 2021 -- Arkansas State University – Mountain Home (ASUMH) today announced a gift from Dr. Ed and Lucretia Norris Coulter, and in memory of Fran Dryer Coulter, to establish the Coulter Celebration of Lights – Mountain Home. This lead gift of $200,000 will enable the establishment of a holiday light display on the campus of ASUMH. Dr. Robin Myers, Chancellor of ASUMH stated, “I want to thank Ed and Lucretia Coulter for their generous and incredible support of this community project. We are delighted to host this wonderful event on the campus for all to enjoy. We also look forward to the benefits this project will bring to our students through scholarships in the future.”
Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams added, “The support from the Coulters today has ensured that this will be the best holiday lights show in north Arkansas – maybe even in the entire state someday. It allows us to start this year with a wonderful exhibit for our community to enjoy, and we will grow this even bigger with other support from the community of Mountain Home.”
The Coulter Celebration of Lights – Mountain Home is a community project through a partnership between the City of Mountain Home, Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce, the City Advertising, Promotion, and Tourism Commission, and ASUMH. The event will be conducted each year on the campus of ASUMH from the week of Thanksgiving through December 27th. Holiday light displays and related activities will be available for the enjoyment and entertainment of area citizens and visitors to the area.
This year the event will be under development and will be presented to the public as a sample of what will be coming in future years. Approximately thirty percent of the campus will be decorated with lights this year. In subsequent years the scope of the lighting of campus will grow as more sponsorships are established and displays added. This year visitors will enter from College Street through the Thompson – Martin gate and proceed onto campus. The route will take you in front of the Shied and out through the Hurd Gate to highway 62. In future years the route of the event will encompass the full King Circle and all parking lots on campus. There will also eventually be concession areas, activities, and other entertainment included in the Coulter Celebration of Lights – Mountain Home.
Sponsorships are available for specific displays within the celebration. Individual, business and corporate sponsorships at various levels are available. Displays can be customized to represent the sponsoring organization and signage will be displayed acknowledging the sponsor. Opportunities to volunteer to assist with the event are also available. Anyone interested in sponsoring a display or volunteering may contact Mollie Morgan at mmorgan@asumh.edu or 870-508-6191.
