The Terre Ware Author Lecture Series at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home (ASUMH) will welcome acclaimed author Anne Keene as the featured speaker on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the Vada Sheid Community Development Center. The event is free and open to the public, and books will be available for purchase.
Keene is the author of the best-selling wartime baseball classic, The Cloudbuster Nine: The Untold Story of Ted Williams and the Baseball Team That Helped Win WWII. The book, which interweaves personal history and national heritage, highlights a little-known Navy training program where her father served as batboy for a team of major league ballplayers—including Ted Williams—preparing to become fighter pilots in the Pacific.
Her work shines a light on one of America’s greatest eras of sacrifice and patriotism, and her storytelling has reached national audiences. Keene’s articles on wartime players such as Babe Ruth and Ted Williams have been featured in The New York Times, HISTORY, Navy Times, and leading sports magazines. She has also appeared on C-SPAN’s American History Channel and PBS’s Book Watch, and has presented at the National World War II Museum, the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, and Major League Baseball events, including the Boston Red Sox 75th anniversary of WWII.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Journalism, Keene frequently speaks to university audiences and U.S. Naval Academy chapters about athletes from the Greatest Generation who served in World War II. She currently contributes to FOX Nation’s “Field of Valor” series, which highlights sports heroes and veterans such as New York Yankee Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio and LPGA co-founder and Marine veteran Patty Berg.
The Terre Ware Author Lecture Series is proud to host Keene for an evening of inspiring storytelling that connects sports, history, and patriotism.
